Hey friends,
I like lists. So here's my bio in list form:
A. My name is Sabrina. Or Sab. Or Brina.
B. I live in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois-- twin cities with combo population of somewhere over 100,000 peeps
C. I graduated from Lincoln Christian Univerisity this past May with a Bachelors in Youth Ministry (basically everyone doubles with a Bible degree & an emphasis). I hope to go to seminary or grad school sooner rather than later for either Spiritual Formation, Counseling, or an Mdiv.
D. Currently I work two jobs for a grand total of full time at Great Harvest Bread Company (as a baker, kneader, and creator of delicious goodies) & Rogy's Learning Place (daycare cleaner extrordinaire).
E. I love to spend time with people. It's my fav. (I love abbrevs). I love music--listening, going to shows, and rocking out on the guitar (9 years) & write songs, & lead worship (I did this in high school and through college at my home church for students). Some current favorite bands: Coldplay, Mat Kearney, Hillsong United, Steve Moakler, The Civil Wars, Mumford & Sons, Jesus Culture. I am an athletic girl so I like to play sports and workout (I played basketball & softball for the majority of my life). I also love to read and learn (primarily non-fiction). I also enjoying cooking and baking, board games, and really...trying anything new and adventurous.
F. I'm super passionate about discipling teenage girls (I have been able to see some amazing fruit come from this ministry in the last 4 years). I'm passionate about loosing the chains of injustice (I have been sponsoring Gaza Nyimbo of Tanzania through Compassion International for 7 years, and follow/give to organizations like IJM. I am a part of an amazing community: Eastview Christian Church and have been a small group leader for our college/young adult ministry (Fuel) all this semester.
I definitely see myself in full time ministry working with girls for a good chunk of my life.
G. I have been on several mission trips in my life. Globally for missions though, I have been to Juarez, Mexico twice to build houses with Casas Por Cristo and once to Genada in the West Indies.
H. This trip was a complete and utter God-thing. There is no other way to explain it. When we meet in person, I will have to tell you the whole story. But basically, I am excited to work with girls in a different context then I ever thought I would. I am excited to be used by God to fight to end this injustice and speak beauty and love into these women. I am excited to do missions for longer than 10 days and actually be able to invest and learn a culture. I'm excited to share the Gospel with people who have never heard the name of Jesus.
What I am I nervous about? Obviously this is a stretching thing. It's not safe. It won't be comfortable. And I'm sure I will miss my family and friends a lot. But I know God is in it, that he lead me to this trip, and that I will have to depend on him. Anytime we have to fully rely on God is the absolute best place to be, because then he gets the glory.
God has been showing me about this trip that he wants to increase my faith & dependence on him, wants to use me to bring the nations to himself, and that a full life is one where we aren't afraid to "give up what we cannot keep to gain what we cannot lose."
This is me in list form. :)
See ya soon!
